Last year I wanted something different to decorate the front door of our old cottage. Our front door is quite plain and painted black, but the stonework is local ironstone giving it a gorgeous, warm orange glow.
So muted, natural shades work well and a traditional wreath with a country twist would be ideal.
Inspired by pheasants in our back garden (hiding from the local shoot), I thought using natural feathers would be perfect and easily sourced around here.
However, trying to explain my need for pheasant feathers to the local farmers proved to be a bit confusing and I ended up buying online from a company in Edinburgh who sell all sorts of feathers to make flies for fishermen.
As it wasn't too 'Christmassy' .... it still hangs in the cottage all year.
